I like this idea a lot. In my mind I have always replaced the cross, which I have long found offensive, with a loaf of bread. But a tree has many facets and is a beautiful symbol of life. Thank you
Absolutely fabulous, and, of course, long overdue. Ever thought of going to one of those deadly dull Episcopal conventions? That’s a place to start, as changing to the Tree iconography requires the widest possible authorization. Cross iconography leads to Lots of guilt induction, control, anti-semitism, and pietism (which tries to convince congregants that suffering is good for you).
I’ll talk to Matt Lincoln and see if he’ll swap out the cross for an Oak!
I love trees, but the cross is a symbol of Christ dying for us. It is the ever-present reminder of his suffering. It constantly reminds us to be better. Trees are wonderful, but they’re not the same thing at all!

WEll, imagining a loaf of fresh bread ain’t bad either! Thanks Kate.

Oak is lovely. Isn’t there big sycamore on Delaware newly?

I understand your objection. For me, his suffering is not the core of Christianity.
